WAR EAGLE MOUNTAIN

BED AND BREAKFAST LODGE

A seasonal experience. The lodge is open from May 31 through October 1, or until snowfall creates an impassable road into Silver City. Reservations are required.

Take a trip back in time and visit Silver City. The historic silver boom town is located in Owyhee County, Idaho. Established in 1864, Silver City soon became the county seat for Owyhee County. The city continued to prosper and grew into one of the largest silver mining meccas of the Pacific Northwest.

The War Eagle Bed and Breakfast Lodge had been the residence of Dave Fogus, an owner of the famous Morning Star Mine. Mr. Fogus wielded his authority until the banks of San Francisco failed in 1875, thus causing a cascading effect that sent the mining boom town into decline.

Following sporadic attempts to regain her former glory of those oft-times hectic and prosperous years, Silver City finally succumbed to decay and disrepair throughout the next fifty years.

Following World War II and devastating wild fires, little is left of this once proud silver mining metropolis, save a handful of buildings owned variously by people whose roots extend back to those glorious boom town days.

The Fogus house had escaped the fires, but the years of neglect nearly razed this wonderful old house. Through historical grants and special funding, the residence has been restored to her former glory. The current owners, Frank and Sherry Horton, invite adventurous guests to partake of their warm and charming bed and breakfast, dedicated to those hardy pioneers of yesteryear.
